This year’s Mayhew’s Christmas Party: Tinsel and Tails was another wonderful party for both doggies and their human companions.
Set this year at the glamorous Grand Connaught Rooms in Holborn a clad with red carpet and chandeliers, the pooches paraded the red carpet, dressed to the nines as if they were off to the Doggy Oscars.
I was invited to cover the event with Green World TV and interviewed a multitude of celebrity supporters including James McVey of the Vamps, Neil Morrissey, Peter Egan, and Wendy Turner-Webster. Other guests included Marc Abraham, Cindy Jackson, Sue Jameson.
I also sat down and chatted with the most important guests of all, the pooches and had a little chat with the famous Gordon, well known for being Mayhew’s longest stayer due to his deafness, but who found a home after being taught sign language and a loving owner who could see how incredible and unique he was. Other wonderful pooches were the Therapaws dogs who were out in force and I loved speaking to their carers who explained to me how important Therapaws was to the elderly and infirm.
After the grand red carpet, all guests were treated to a lovely sit down vegan / veggie meal and wonderful readings from various guests including CEO Caroline Yates. A video showcasing the work of The Mayhew was shown, filmed by acclaimed cameraman David Jackson with a voiceover from actor Neil Conrich from Midsomer Murders.
A wonderful £14,500 was raised with the auction and raffle
